Flora & Fauna: Empowering Conscious Shopping and Driving Positive Change

Julie, the visionary founder of Flora & Fauna, embarked on a mission to revolutionize the retail industry after accumulating over 20 years of experience. Recognising the need for a business that prioritizes its impact on the world and contributes to society, Julie established Flora & Fauna as a beacon of conscious shopping and a catalyst for transformative change.

In a world where information about product origins, ingredients, and production processes is often obscured, Flora & Fauna stands as a shining example of transparency and accountability. Unlike many retailers, they take a proactive approach to scrutinizing their supply chains and minimizing waste production. Julie’s ultimate goal was not only to bring about change within Flora & Fauna but also to inspire the entire industry to follow suit.

One of the core pillars of Flora & Fauna’s ethos is the commitment to sourcing the best ethical, eco-friendly, organic, and vegan products. Their extensive range of over 9,000 products and 300+ brands is a testament to their unwavering dedication. Moreover, Flora & Fauna proudly ensures that every single item they offer is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, providing conscientious consumers with a guilt-free shopping experience.

The journey of Flora & Fauna began in July 2014 when it was merely a concept. By November of the same year, they launched their online store, starting with 30 brands and approximately 500 beauty and skincare products. Over time, Flora & Fauna has grown exponentially, expanding their offerings to include home, fashion, food, and health products. Through it all, Julie’s husband Tom joined the team, contributing his expertise in operations and finance. Together, they have fostered an inspiring and dedicated workforce that propels the business forward each day.

Initially based in Galston, NSW, Flora & Fauna outgrew their humble origins by late 2018. Although they had to bid farewell to Rosie the pig, F&F’s beloved ambassador, who remains happily munching on carrots in Galston, the spirit of compassion she embodied stayed with the company. Rosie’s intelligence and the reminder of the importance of cherishing and respecting animals continue to inspire Flora & Fauna’s commitment to doing better every single day.

Flora & Fauna has achieved significant milestones throughout its journey, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to sustainability and social responsibility. In July 2016, they made a pivotal move toward plastic-free shipping packaging, resulting in the prevention of over 30 tonnes of plastic waste. Embracing their commitment to environmental stewardship, they launched a recycling program and forged a partnership with Where Pigs Fly Farm Sanctuary, a remarkable sanctuary in NSW, in June 2017.

Flora & Fauna’s exemplary practices earned them the prestigious BCorp certification in November 2017, solidifying their position as one of the pioneering retailers in Australia dedicated to balancing profit with purpose. Recognizing the need for growth, they relocated to a larger warehouse in September 2018 to accommodate their rapidly expanding operations.

In June 2019, Flora & Fauna took a remarkable step by carbon offsetting not only their orders but also their operations and even their team’s cars. The opening of their first physical store in North Rocks in July 2019 was met with overwhelming support, as over 1000 people attended the grand launch. Additionally, their new website was unveiled in October 2019, providing an enhanced user experience for their loyal customers.
